Chapter 1 (Office Organization)
An office depends on:
1- Size of business.
2- Type & Nature of business.

Kind of Business:
1- Commercial: it is buying and selling of goods.
2- Services: which provide services to the customer such as the business of doctors, engineers, accountants, lawyers and teachers.
Medium size Business has the following departments:
DepartmentIts job/ responsibilities/ dutiesAdministrationCleaning, security, reception, telephones, and incoming and out going mail of the office.

FinanceTakes care of payments, receipts, petty cash payments, and the preparation of purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and find the best price from the market (quotation).

PersonnelRecruitment of employees, keeping record on all employees, personal files, leaves records, promotions and salaries.

IT ( Information Technology)Take care of computer equipment in an office and have technicians with programmers.

PurchaseFinding the goods, getting the best price for the goods and prepare the document needed for purchasing.

SalesPromotion and adverting for the goods, receives order, takes goods from stores and make the delivery, do after sales services.

Production and Manufacturing.Get the raw material and change them into final goods or products.


The LiabilityWhat is Liability?
Liability is the money a businessman has to pay to other people for his business.
Examples:
1- Telephone bills.
2- Electricity bills
3- Rent.

Liability is two types:
1- Unlimited Liability: it means the traders has to pay all the dues from his business and if there is not enough money left, from his personal assets like houses, cars pr furniture.
2- Limited liability: it means the business person is responsible only for the amount put into business.

..:: In Bahrain there are 4 types of Business ::..

1- Sole trader Sole means alone, the business has one owner, who invests all capital, run and enjoys all the profit and suffers the lost.
Examples:
1- A small gold store.
2- Tea shop.
3- Restaurant.

2- Partnership When two or more persons agree to do same business, it is called a partnership. (2-10)
Partnership of two types:
A- Unlimited partnership.
B- Limited partnership.

3- Private Limited Company The people from the same family provide the necessary capital for the business, the partners are called "shareholders" and they should not exceed 50 partners. The liability in this types of business is limited to the shares in business.

4- Public limited company In this type the capital of the company is divided into shares and sold to the public. The public choose some people to run the company known as "Board of Directors", and the people who buy shares known as "shareholders".

E-commerce or Internet trading: is the latest type of business where you can buy anything from anywhere in the world, using a computer.

Closed layout

Advantages:
1- More private.
2- Less noisy.
3- More security.

Disadvantages:
1- Difficult in supervise the staff.
2- No communication between the staff.
3- Teamwork missing.

Open-plan office

Advantages:
1- Easy supervision.
2- Easy communication.
3- Better teamwork.
4- Offices are brighter and look larger.

Disadvantages:
1- No privacy.
2- More noisy.
3- Nothing is personal.
